ARRIVAL
On your initial visit, you will need to fill out intake paperwork. You can find these forms on the Intake Forms tab to print, complete and bring with you to your evaluation or you can choose to arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete these forms prior to your evaluation. Please allow adequate time to ensure a timely start to your appointment.
At each follow up appointment, please arrive a few minutes early in order to change your clothes, use the restroom, etc.
WHAT TO WEAR
For Physical Therapy and Myofascial Release, assessment of body alignment and movement patterns throughout the body and joints are important. Myofascial release is most effective when performed directly on the skin with no added lotion or oils to the body. Wearing appropriate clothing allows your therapist to accurately detect myofascial restrictions and optimize treatment effectiveness.

Traditional physical therapy often assists one in attempting to decrease tightness and restrictions by maintaining stretches for 30 seconds in the area of the patient's symptoms. This addresses the muscular and elastic component of the system, which allows for only temporary relief for many. With myofascial release, the therapist is trained to acknowledge where the symptoms are and look elsewhere for the cause. This means she will assess and treat the entire body. She will identify areas throughout the body that are tight, tender and not moving properly or are not in symmetry with the other side and address all areas (throughout consecutive sessions). The therapist applies gentle, sustained pressure for 3-5 minutes at a time, sometimes longer, into these areas of the body, addressing the fascia, which allows for long lasting changes to be made. Myofascial release is used to improve the alignment in the body allowing for all other modalities to be more effective. Traditional physical therapy also includes strengthening, balance training, mobility training, postural re-education, neuromuscular re-education and other modalities that are used when appropriate in conjunction with myofascial release to enhance the benefits of myofascial release.
No. Some areas may initially be tender but this work never forces or over-stretches. Ashley will assist you in softening into each hold allowing the tightness/ restrictions to soften. You are always in control. At any point something feels too much for you, inform Ashley and she will adjust immediately.
Self care classes are hour long workshops where you learn about a specific topic. You will be provided information on that topic and learn ways to self treat which may include but not limited to a variety of exercises and activities including stretching or strengthening, self myofascial release techniques (following the principles of myofascial release maintaining holds of greater than 2 minutes), postural education, education regarding workplace set up and relaxation techniques. Information and activities will vary based on the class topic.
These classes teach you tips and tools that empower you with the knowledge to treat yourself between sessions, throughout your work day and throughout your life to manage your symptoms and maintain your wellness!
No. All are welcome and encouraged to attend these classes. Ashley wants to share her knowledge with you to help you live a healthy lifestyle. Someone new to the practice will be required to fill out an intake form prior to class that Ashley will review in order to determine if any modifications will be necessary for that person for his or her safety.
